SAFA Officially Unveil Stuart Baxter As New Bafana Coach

By Soccer Laduma - May 15, 2017 02:29 PM

The South African Football Association has officially unveiled Stuart Baxter as the new Bafana Bafana head coach at the SAFA House today, after confirming his appointment at the helm on May 04.

It has been months since Shakes Mashaba’s dismissal from the national team and the South African football fraternity can finally look ahead as the saga of finding the next best man for the job has finally been put to bed.

After several weeks of ongoing talks and negotiations between the association and Coach Baxter, the main focus can now be fully shifted on the country’s upcoming AFCON, CHAN and 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Englishman has made his first official address as the head coach of the national team today, May 15, with the first task being to prepare for the Bafana’s upcoming Africa Cup Of Nation’s opening qualifier against Nigeria on the weekend of June 9 to 11.

"Stuart Baxter will name his squad for Nigeria on 25 May. The match will be played in Uyo on 10 June," SAFA confirmed on their official Twitter account.

@tcdeluxe Yes bruh your right .. they do forget our player's are average player's .. even our overseas player's are not extra ordinary players .. some are fighting religation , bench warmers ... Atleast Baxter understand our football and he will try to build the national team ..

@Hluli khosi 4 lyf I understand ur frustration at these critical comments esp since dey not shedding any wisdom on who shud be at de top of Bafana. Again, dey missing de point dat our players are average, nothing special yet we expect great things. At least whe have a coach that can uplift average to good. Chiefs en supersport are two cases on point.

what has he done to deserve all this praise coz at chips he won the league on his third season, the team was sloppy n just won by hitting counters n with older players, at supersport he won one cup in his first season but they finish outside 2nd on the league standings; he has not done good in Africa with chiefs he never even participated now in contrast to that of gavim hunt whos won the league convincingly wit a small team n always finishes higher on the log with a small teams n tinkler won a cup fisrt time wi cape town city, he went to the caf champs final but i think surffer bosses have an agenda because gavin hunt is white so theyll rather splash money to an english guy who once was given the post n failed n they gave the job to shakes who failed dissmally together with pitso but rather than giving it to a south african in order to prove his critics they decided to go for an english man who is going to fail again coz of their interference & even owen de gama was good for the job but not with surffer no they always bringing failures who were turned away in turkey for not picking up maximum points but who are we to judgecz even the suffer board dont deserve to be there its all politics n they are bringing the sporting code into disrepute

You've been our head coach in recent years..but what did you do Baxter? You've done nothing..it's like you came here in SA for eating our money only..you never won a real cup with our national team..you deserve to coach clubs in PSL not our national team..you standards of coaching our national team is low..

I am still not convinced that Baxteena would be able to make sole decisions not influenced by players agents and SAFA including the minister of sports. I didn't like Shakes but I like his way of dealing with agents he didn't care about big names he cared about what he wants as a coach and I respect him for that.

Yeye, Morgan Gould, Pieterse Mashamaite must stay injury free cause they are going to be selected for a game against Nigeria. His son is a goalkeeper coach for Bafana as well?
