Chiefs Star Donates R50k To Charity
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Willard Katsande, with the help of Vodacom, donated R50,000 to a Johannesburg-based charity dedicated to making a difference.
Katsande, who won the Amakhosi’s 2015/16 Fans Player of the Year award, took to Edenvale this week to hand over the cheque to Community Provision and Social Services (COMPASS), an organisation that the Zimbabwean chose himself.
The 30-year-old has become a mainstay in the Glamour Boys’ line-up in recent years, making himself an indispensible part of the side under both Stuart Baxter and now Steve Komphela, improving year on year.
Now, after picking his charity, Katsande has explained some of the reasons behind his choice.
Zimbabwe’s national team captain said in a press release, “I chose this orphanage before, they are my choice because of a few aspects. Some, of course is that there are Zimbabwean orphans in the group. Also, the last time I chose this orphanage they became a lucky charm, we won the double that season and my individual performance was superb as well.
“Obviously it reminds me of my early years when life was not rosy as I come from an impoverished background and my efforts here will bring hope to the kids.”
Katsande is expected to be one of the first names on the team sheet when Chiefs face Highlands Park on Wednesday evening as they look to bring their poor form to an end.
