Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa

Orlando Pirates have confirmed that striker Zakhele Lepasa has officially parted ways with the club, bringing an end to a long period of uncertainty surrounding his future.

Speculation had been building in recent weeks, especially after Lepasa was listed as “unattached” in Bafana Bafana’s official squad for the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The designation, which typically signals that a player is without a club, sparked questions among supporters about his status with the Soweto giants.

Lepasa was notably absent from Pirates’ recent pre-season tour of Spain under new coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, having also failed to make a single official appearance during the 2024/25 campaign.

His exclusion, along with the latest developments, made it clear that his time at the club had come to an end.

Despite the split, Lepasa was recently featured in the club’s ‘Giants’ Series documentary, highlighting his role in the club’s history — even if he no longer features in its future plans.

The 28-year-old has been called up for CHAN 2025, and while he remains without a club, the tournament could provide the perfect platform for a fresh start.

The Siya crew will keep a close eye on where Lepasa lands next.
