While fans were enthused over the brand new Orlando Pirates kit, questions were asked about the team's star, which appeared on kits from yesteryear.
In recent years, all Pirates kits in partnership with adidas displayed a star on the club crest to commemorate the club's historical CAF Champions League victory in 1995, that saw them become the first team from Africa's southern region to lift the prestigious trophy.
However, the club's 2020/21 playing kit displays a change to the Club's traditional badge, which has been replaced with the skull and crossbones emblem on both jerseys, which led to questions about the whereabouts of the star.
In a virtual press conference held on Tuesday morning, the club's media officer Thandi Merafe explained that the star was still present on the jersey, but it had moved to a new location.
"The star is still there. It will always be there. Orlando Pirates are the first club from the Southern region to win the (CAF) Champions League in 1995, so we have to represent that. With the skull and crossbones now at the forefront of the badge, we have moved the star to the bottom of the jersey, in which the original adidas replicas will display the authenticity stamp as well as the star," Merafe explained.
Pirates will also be donning the new jerseys in the CAF Confederations Cup following the club's third place finish in the 2019/20 Absa Premiership season.
