Nedbank Cup Last 32 Report: Chippa United v TS Galaxy 05 February 2020

Result: Chippa United 3-0 TS Galaxy

Date: 05 February 2020

Venue: Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium

TS Galaxy's defence of their Nedbank Cup title came to an end in the round of 32 after a 3-0 defeat to Chippa United on Wednesday evening.

The Chilli Boys brought in four new faces in the form of Athini Jodwana, Thabiso Lebitso, Ruzaigh Gamildien and the returning Sandile Mthethwa following the weekend's loss to Orlando Pirates.

After a slow start, the visitors carved out the first clear chance in the 14th minute after Ndlovu went through in the box from Sizwe Mdlinzos' back-heel but his low shot lacked power and was gathered by Chippa shot-stopper Veli Mothwa.

Norman Mapeza's charges nearly found the opener three minutes later after Lebitso delivered a cut-back from the right channel but Gamildien scuffed his shot just wide of the post.

The GladAfrica Championship side started to take the game by the scruff of the neck after the half-hour mark, with intricate passing going forward but they just lacked the final pass while the Chilli Boys were always out-numbered in possession up front.

Mapeza made two key changes in the opening ten minutes of the second half as Meshack Maphangule replaced Jodwana while Lebitso made way for Silas Maziya just before the hour-mark.

United then found their rhythm going forward as Gamildien finally broke the deadlock in the 64th minute with a stunning strike from outside the box that sailed into the top corner.

Dan Malesela's troops almost levelled matters with 20 minutes remaining after Terrence Mashego carved out space on the left side of the box and unleashed a powerful drive that was brilliantly kept out by Mothwa.

However, the Chilli Boys doubled their lead with 16 minutes left thanks to a tap-in from Chidi Kwem Mpankumpaku spilled Mizaya's low cross into the Nigerian's path.

Kwem wrapped up the win for Chippa with a minute left with a toe-poked finish past Mpakumpaku after being sent clear on goal by Gamildien as the Chilli Boys advanced to the last 16.
