Jeremy Brockie' sixth minute strike was enough to hand Eric Tinkler's charges a 1-0 win at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening.
Chiefs enjoyed most of the possession but were unable to find the back of the net, while they also hit the woodwork three times.
"Congratulations to Eric (Tinkler) again. He seems to be having a muti that works on me, almost the same fate we suffered in Cape Town (against) Cape Town City. They scored an early goal and typical of him on a counter attack, which is what I thought we dealt with," Komphela told SuperSport after the game.
"Brockie and Grobler would just look to play behind and split, we managed that through the holding midfield.
"With regards to the game, there's very little you can say. We can't come up with excuses here, this is football, the only proper explanation is to win it.
"Players played well, you can't fault them. Good energy, created chances, I don't know how many times we hit the post. Maybe again to take it and say 'go back and work again'."
