Kaizer Chiefs Hosted A Media Day And Had Injury News Today

Kaizer Chiefs opened up the doors to Naturena ahead of their bumper clash with Orlando Pirates, and Ernst Middendorp has ruled out a couple of Amakhosi stars for the derby.

Middendorp and his technical team have had their fair share of injury problems already in 2019/20 regarding several of their first team players, and it appears that both Reeve Frosler and Kearyn Baccus will be sidelined for the crucial battle between Mzansi's biggest rivals at Moses Mabhida Stadium at the weekend.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, "It looks like Reeve Frosler will probably not be available, Kearyn Baccus will definitely not, but we said it immediately after his injury that he will take a time of three weeks… At the moment we're in the second week, so we're saying no chance.

"Otherwise, good, we have experienced the substitutions coming in. So far, we are busy preparing players to take over these positions, hopefully with the same performance as we have seen lately."

Number one goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, was spotted kitted out in his boots though (as seen in the gallery above) as he looks to get himself back in contention to return, though it remains to be seen when he will be fully recovered from the groin injury that has kept him out of late.

Meanwhile, the experienced duo of Leonardo Castro and Willard Katsande were made available in a press conference, with the pair giving their thoughts on the game ahead.

As reported by the Premier Soccer League's official Twitter account, the Colombian said, "The win against my previous club was good for us but it is in the past. We are now focusing on preparing for the derby."

On top of that, Katsande added, "We have met a few times in the TKO in the past and they beat us last season but like I said, we are in a better frame of mind and we will do our best to advance to the next round."

Chiefs and Pirates face off at 15h00 on Saturday.
