As Kaizer Chiefs prepare to take on Baroka FC in the DStv Premiership, long-serving player Bernard Parker is on the verge of breaking a record held by former Amakhosi midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala.
Parker, who was named vice-captain by head coach Stuart Baxter, has been with the Soweto giants for 10 years and has won everything but the Telkom Knockout with the club. With one goal already this season in the MTN8, the player is just a goal away from overtaking Tshabalala as Amakhosi's all-time top scorer in the PSL era in all competitions.
According to the club's official website, Parker is currently on 58 goals in 355 matches in all competitions for the Glamour Boys. Parker has entered his 11th campaign with Amakhosi and has only missed an opening game of the season just once signing joining the club in 2011/12.
Chiefs started the campaign with a goalless draw away to TS Galaxy at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday and will be looking to get on the score sheet for the first time in the Premiership this season. Parker is one of the club's goal threats and will need to be in fine form to break down a Baroka defence which kept a clean sheet on the opening weekend of the season in a 2-0 win over Limpopo rivals Marumo Gallants.
Amakhosi host Baroka at FNB Stadium this evening.
