Last season, Supersport United striker Iqraam Rayners managed just one goal for the entire campaign; however, his coach Kaitano Tembo has revealed why he expects the speedy attacker to fire on all cylinders this campaign.
Rayners was roped in by Matsatsantsa from Stellenbosch FC at the start of the 2019/20 campaign, on the back of an impressive few campaigns for the Cape outfit that was littered with goals - especially the one where he scored 19 goals to help Stellenbosch win the NFD title.
However, he hasn't quite experienced the same joy for the Tshwane giants.
It took just a few minutes for the 25-year-old to match his goal-scoring tally of one goal last season when he fired SuperSport ahead with a well-taken curling effort in their MTN8 quarter-final loss to Golden Arrows on Saturday.
Now, having started the season brightly, his coach has backed the forward to continue finding the back of the net on a more regular basis this season.
"I think he will most definitely do well this season. I think we knew the first season was always gonna be a time for him to settle in and get used to our environment, so we didn't really put him under any pressure because we knew that he would need time, especially when you have players coming from the Cape, they need a lot of time and support and we have given him that," Tembo told the Siya crew.
" I think this season he still has a lot to offer us, and he is gonna have a very crucial role to play. We sat down with him, and we tried to make sure that he stays calm because we are not putting him under any pressure. We know why we brought him to the club and his ability.
"You could see the finish is from someone who is working really hard in training and I'm very happy with his progress at the moment," Tembo added.
