Atletico Madrid beat their city rivals Rayo Vallecano 3-1 in their La Liga clash on Saturday night.
Los Rojiblancos hit the front in the 12th minute as the visitors gifted them with the opening goal. Rayo attempted to play it out from the back but Ze Castro was dispossessed, allowing Antoine Griezman to charge past him and place his strike past the goalkeeper. Griezman completed his brace only ten minutes later. Mario Mandzukic won the ball in the air and nodded it on for the Frenchman to run onto and stab home the finish for a 2-0 lead. Rayo pulled themselves back to within one goal as they opened their account in the 35th minute. Against the run of play, Rayo attacked from the halfway line as Kakuta played it on for Trashorras who was in space on the edge of the box and had time to line up his effort, finding the bottom corner of the Atletico goal. However, disaster struck for Rayo in the 56th minute when a set-piece delivery from Griezman hit Goncalves in the six-yard box. The deflection sent the ball into the back of the visitors' net, effectively nipping their comeback in the bud. Rayo had a great chance to reduce the deficit to a single goal in the 79th minute but Bueno, who was unmarked six yards out, sent his shot straight at the goalkeeper when anywhere else would have resulted in a goal.See The Latest La Liga Results
