Before the match got under way, controversy was sparked when fans and television viewers saw what appeared to be Pique holding his middle finger up during the singing of his country's national anthem.
It is believed that, if the action was intentional, Pique was displaying the disrespectful sign due to his Catalan pride, which has resulted in him being booed by Spain supporters on many occasions.
Here is a picture taken from camera footage on Tuesday night, which appears to show the Barca man holding his middle finger up during La Furia Roja's anthem.
However, Pique took to Twitter after the match to rubbish claims that he was showing any disrespect.
"I'm cracking my knuckles during the anthem," he wrote.
"Let's stop looking for controversy where there isn't any and try to win these Euros together."
