Italy finished with a perfect record in Group A after defeating Wales, who secured second spot on Sunday evening.
The Italians opened the scoring six minutes before the halftime break when Marco Verratti picked out Pessina, who managed to squeeze home a strike at the far post.
Wales' hope of finding a way back into the contest suffered a blow in the 55th minute when Ethan Ampadu was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Federico Bernardeschi.
The Welsh were unable to find the equaliser but still managed to qualify in second spot due their goal difference.

Switzerland 3-1 Turkey
Switzerland will have to find out their last 16 fate despite beating Turkey 3-1 in their final Group A clash.
The Swiss got off to a good start as Haris Seferovic opened the scoring on six minutes with a neat strike from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner.
Xherdan Shaqiri doubled the lead in the 26th minute with a spectacular right-footed strike from distance that arrowed into the top corner.
Irfan Kahveci pulled a goal back for Turkey on 62 minutes, but Shaqiri restored Switzerland's two-goal advantage six minutes later with a neat first-time finish.
The Swiss will now need to wait and see if they finish among the four best third-place teams.
