UEFA Champions League semi-final

Teams: Liverpool vs AS Roma

Date: 24 April 2018

Venue: Anfield

Time: 8.45pm

The Reds enter the game as favourites, having eliminated newly-crowned Premier League champions Manchester City in the previous round, winning both of their quarter-final clashes against Pep Guardiola's team.

Roma, though, cannot be underestimated after they knocked out an FC Barcelona side that are still unbeaten in LaLiga this season.

These two teams have met five times in official matches so far, most notably in the 1984 European Cup final, when the English giants beat the Giallorossi 4-2 on penalties.

Liverpool were also victorious in the two sides' only previous two-legged knockout tie, beating Roma 2-1 on aggregate in the fourth round of the 2000/01 UEFA Cup (the predecessor of the Europa League), despite losing the second leg 1-0 at Anfield.

The home side also beat their Serie A visitors in their most recent meeting, in the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League group stages, winning 2-0 at home after the first leg had ended in a 0-0 draw.

All eyes will be on Salah, who will be facing his former side. He has taken England by storm since joining the Reds from Roma for €42 million (R621 million) in June 2017.

The Egyptian has scored 41 goals across all competitions so far this season, with eight of those strikes coming in the Champions League, equalling the best-ever scoring campaign by an African.

Here is how they line up:

Liverpool: Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson; Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson; Salah, Mane, Firmino.

AS Roma: Alisson; Fazio, Manolas, Jesus; Florenzi, De Rossi, Strootman, Kolarov; Under, Nainggolan, Dzeko.
