Following his controversial criticism of FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi recently, Argentina legend Diego Maradona has seemingly backtracked on his comments.
Maradona: Messi Goes To The Toilet Too Often To Be A Leader
Speaking to FOX Sports on television two weeks ago, the 1986 FIFA World Cup winner said "it's pointless to make a leader out of a man who goes to the bathroom 20 times before a match", when discussing Messi's captaincy role for Argentina.
The 57-year-old received plenty of backlash for his remarks, but has since claimed that he was not referring to Messi and that his words were twisted.
"I know who Leo is, I know he's the best player in the world," he said, according to Sportskeeda.
"If I said a player goes to the toilet 20 times before a game, I never named Lionel Messi.
"They want to put me into a confrontation with Messi but they cannot.
"The friendship I have with Lionel is bigger than anything they can write, and I'm saying that he's the greatest in the world."
