Ligue 1 Report: Clermont v Paris Saint-Germain 09 April 2022

Kylian Mbappe and Neymar both bagged hat-tricks as Paris Saint-Germain thumped Clermont 6-1 in Ligue 1 action on Saturday night.

Result: Clermont 1-6 Paris Saint-Germain

Date: 09 April 2022

Venue: Stade Gabriel Montpied

Sergio Ramos earned his fifth start of the league season for the defending champions in place of Marquinhos, who was rested for the encounter.

The visitors got the breakthrough goal after just six minutes as Neymar collected a pass from Lionel Messi before taking one touch to fire into the back of the net from close range.

The lead was doubled in the 19th minute as Messi turned provider once again, this time picking out Kylian Mbappe for his 18th league goal of the season.

Clermont were left shocked by PSG's fast start to the encounter and barley had a chance to get a touch of the ball for most of the opening stanza.

However, the hosts managed to pull goal back against the run of play three minutes before the break courtesy of a strike from Jodel Dossou.

Clermont looked to carry that momentum into the second period and went close to pulling level on 61 minutes when Gianluigi Donnarumma produced a fine save to keep out Jason Berthomier's volley.

However, PSG killed off any hope of a comeback when Neymar completed his brace from the penalty in the 71st minute for Akim Zedadka's foul on Mbappe.

Neymar then turned provider three minutes later with an impressive pass to find Mbappe, who rounded the Clermont goalkeeper before slotting into an empty net.

Mbappe completed his hat-trick with 10 minutes left on the clock with a superb finish after being set up by Messi once again, but he was not to be outdone as Neymar got his third goal three minutes later to round off an emphatic victory.
