A shock report has claimed that Frenkie de Jong has been left disgusted by Spanish giants Barcelona following a recent phone call with head coach Xavi Hernandez.
According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, the 25-year-old is incredibly disgruntled about his situation at the Blaugrana after being told on Monday night that he was going to be sold.
It is claimed De Jong, 25, had a phone call with Xavi, who communicated to the player that it was the club's plan to sell him ahead of the 2022/23 season.
After returning from holiday for pre-season on Monday, De Jong was pictured in training at the Catalan club amid rumours Manchester United are closing in on his signature.
United chiefs were reportedly in the city of Barcelona to meet with president Joan Laporta to discuss the deal earlier this week, with rumours suggesting the two clubs have reached an agreement for €85 million (R1.4 billion), including add-ons, for De Jong's services.
The midfielder, who is said to be owed money by Barcelona in deferred wages, was provided with a fresh update by Xavi on Monday after negotiations between United and the LaLiga giants.
While De Jong is believed to understand the seriousness of the club's economic situation, he has been disappointed with the "manner in which they have approached the transfer and he is said to have been left isolated in the negotiation process".
