Raphinha Breaks Silence Following Barca Move
Despite it being reported that the 25-year-old has no desire to leave the Blaugrana, it is understood the LaLiga side has informed De Jong that they would like him to accept United's offer.
According to The Athletic, Barcelona's hierarchy has told the Dutch international that his sale is necessary for the club to be able to balance their wage bill in order to register new signings.
It is claimed president Joan Laporta and his staff are attempting to convince De Jong that a switch to the Red Devils would benefit his career and that their decision to sell him is related to their financial situation.
Here is how Barca could line up next season with their new signings and the potential arrival of Robert Lewandowski:
United are believed to have struck an agreement with Barcelona, said to be worth €75 million (R1.2 billion) excluding add-ons, for the midfielder's services.
Reports in Spain, however, suggest that the ex-Ajax Amsterdam player is desperate to stay at the Camp Nou and is not interested in negotiating with the 20-time English champions, despite his former manager Erik ten Hag's presence at Old Trafford.
De Jong worked under the new United boss in the Netherlands and became an integral part of the Dutch team's success as he helped Ajax reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals three years ago.
