It was reported in 2011 that Los Blancos had made an enquiry into the availability of Lionel Messi, who was unsurprisingly not for sale. According to the Sun, Real also once tried to sign Sergio Busquets.
Luis Suarez was also said to be linked with Real in 2013, as per The Guardian, while Ivan Rakitic was believed to choose Barca over Real in 2014.
It is said that Neymar is another top player to have rejected a move to Los Blancos early in his career, though links with Real have seemingly resurfaced in recent times.
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard reportedly had the option of moving to the Spanish giants when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club, while Gianluigi Buffon, who recently turned 40 years old, is also known to have snubbed Real in his career.
Ex-Manchester United captain Roy Keane revealed once that he turned down a chance to join Real, where he would have teamed up with David Beckham once again.
