While many have been left surprised that the Catalan giants are strengthening a direct a rival, this is not the first time this has happened.
Perhaps one of Barcelona's biggest blunders in recent years was selling 2010 World Cup winner David Villa to Los Rojiblancos in 2013.
After winning a few titles at the Camp Nou, Villa went to Madrid in the 2013/2014 season and helped Atletico win the LaLiga title while they also eliminated Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
One of the most recent deal between the two sides saw Turkish midfielder Arda Turan switch the Spanish capital for Barcelona in 2015 for a reported fee of £24milion.
However, the Turk's move did not pan out as expected after only making 54 appearances for the club before eventually parting ways with the club last month on a free transfer.
