The German was seen wearing the No. 23 jersey for most of United's pre-season, but the squad numbers were officially announced the day before their opening match of the league campaign, with Schweinsteiger getting the No. 31 top.
Some fans reached out to the former Bayern star via social media, explaining they had the wrong number printed on the back of their shirts as a result of the late number change.
The German responded to one supporter named Florian, saying he will give away 31 jerseys to those fans with the wrong shirt number.
"What a pity, Florian. I will send you a signed jersey in order to help you out here," he said, according to Bleacher Report.
"Thank you for your great support! Amongst all other fans, who sent in a picture wearing one of my old jerseys, I will give away 31 Manchester United jerseys."
Schweinsteiger arrived at United with a massive reputation, and has immediately become a fan favourite at the Red Devils.
