After the Bundesliga announced that it will investigate tributes to the late George Floyd made by the likes of Jadon Sancho and Achraf Hakimi, FIFA has released a statement on the matter.
The two Borussia Dortmund players, along with Borussia Monchengladbach forward Thuram and Schalke's Weston McKennie, expressed their solidarity with Floyd, a black man murdered by police in the United States of America last week, this past weekend.
The German Football Association (DFB) subsequently announced that they will look into the actions displayed by these players as the league prohibits "any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images" on equipment.
In response to the DFB's statement, FIFA has called for common sense to prevail during these difficult times.
"The application of the laws of the game ... is left for the competitions' organisers, which should use common sense and have in consideration the context surrounding the events."
It is yet to be determined whether or not any of the abovementioned players will face sanctions for their actions as the nation-wide protests in America continue.
