Bundesliga Wrap 06 June 2020

Borussia Dortmund kept their Bundesliga title hopes alive with a slender victory over Hertha Berlin on Saturday evening.

Jadon Sancho and Manuel Akanji both started for Dortmund, despite being fined on Friday for breaking lockdown rules for getting haircuts.

However, it was Emre Can who got the all-important strike to move Dortmund back to within in seven points of league leaders Bayern Munich.

RB Leipzig missed the chance to move second after being held to a 1-1 draw by Paderborn at the Red Bull Arena.

The hosts looked to have secured three points thanks to Patrik Schick opener in the 27th minute, before Dayotchanculle Upamencano was sent off before the halftime break.

However, Christian Strohdiek popped up in second-half stoppage time to secure a point for the visitors.

Mainz bagged a second straight Bundesliga victory after defeating Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon.

Moussa Niakhate got the scoring underway for the visitors three minutes before the halftime break, before Pierre Malong sealed the win on 77 minutes.

Fortuna Dusseldorf remain in the relegation/play-off spot after playing to a 2-2 draw against Mainz on home soil.

Rouwen Hennings was the hero for the home side after bagging a brace to cancel out strikes from Moanes Dabour and Steven Zuber for Mainz, who had Benjamin Hubner sent off in the ninth minute.
