“Pirates Should Learn From Big Clubs In Europe” – Reader’s Voice
Since all fans were served with poor performance from Pirates this past season, maybe they should take a lesson or two from clubs like Real Madrid.
Orlando Pirates is arguably one of the biggest clubs in Africa. It was sad to see them struggle this past season. Big clubs only buy players who are good enough to put in the first eleven and guaranteed to perform.
Mamelodi Sundowns learnt their lesson and they have been focused on good signings for the past two seasons already and results are clear for every everyone to see.
Pirates must either buy fully developed players to play regularly or promote from their development structures. They need to buy quality not quantity. Last season more defenders were bought than any other department, but results were not fruitful.
Having a big squad does not guarantee results but buying quality can impact the performance of the team. Having 23 quality players is better than having 40 players who never get time to adapt for different reasons.
I suggest a balanced squad with not less than two left footed players on the pitch at all times. Orlando Pirates should buy quality, not quantity.
