When Stuart Baxter was unveiled as the Kaizer Chiefs coach a few years back, fans believed that management had committed an error.
His record as Bafana Bafana coach was not bad but many trolled and ridiculed him as a CV cooker. However, Baxter won four titles with Amakhosi, including two league triumphs.
What was impressive about Baxter was that he hit the ground running and won the big games against the big clubs.
Baxter had quality players at his disposal, having signed the likes of Bernard Parker, Tsepo Masilela and Siboniso Gaxa whilst at the club.
Chiefs new head coach, Giovanni Solinas, has been the surprise appointment this time around.
He is yet to win a trophy in the PSL and has no real presence in South African football, however, he is tipped to being the masterstroke that the club needs at this moment in time.
To begin his tenure, he will have new boy Khama Billiat at his disposal, one of the club’s marquee signings for the new campaign.
Can Solinas emulate Baxter and take Chiefs to the top again?
