African National Teams Should Appoint Local Coaches – Reader’s Voice

Default

Following the Egyptian Football Association's decision to announce Javier Aguirre as their new national team coach, it appears that African nations prefer to appoint foreign coaches over local mentors.

Out of the five African teams that competed at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, only two were guided by a local coach – Senegal, who was coached by Aliou Cissé and Tunisia, who was coached by Nabil Maâloul.

And the foreign-coached Egypt, Morocco and Nigeria are not alone. Other African powerhouses like Burkina Faso, Gabon, Togo and South Africa are also not coached by a local.

Moreover, Cameroon could soon be added to this list, as the Swedsih Sven-Göran Eriksson has been linked with The Indomitable Lions's vacant managerial post.

Foreign coaches generally do not understand the African country's culture, style of football and language.

They also occupy the potential positions of local African coaches, and this denies the latter the ability to garner experience on the international stage.

What are your thoughts, should local teams appoint local coaches more often?

I am suprised people are are worried about local coaches. I am WORRIED about the players in particular STRIKERS AND KEEPERS. Key striker for Chiefs are Paez, Billiat and Castro. Bucs have Mulenga and Shonga. Sundowns have Brockie and Sirino. Do mean to tell me that South Africa cannot produce strikers? No offense to the players that I mentioned. Check the goal keeping department in all the 16 teams and you will be shocked.

SAFA must engage him now. He is still respected by the soccer loving people of Mzansi. The fans will give him a chance to make mistakes unlike other coaches.

SAFA please give the Bafana head coach position to Hunt or rectify your mistakes by re-employing Pitso. Beef up the technical team with guys like Tinkler and Bennie

Its true that Africans should be brave enough to trust the talent God had given them.Talking about Africans,i will mostly point out one country,South Africa.SAFA comity is putting more politics than soccer. Our football must be in the hands of the former players, instead of polititions. We have listed big money on paying foreign coaches who just come for their own values than the country. We have what it takes to lead our national team for glory.#UP THE BUCS.
