Pulisic's Arrival Could be Hazard-ous for Chelsea.
Chelsea's capture of USA starlet Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund is surely the clearest indication yet of the Blues' resignation to the impending departure of talisman Eden Hazard at the end of the season. Real Madrid have spent the last two years carefully laying the foundations for a bumper bid to lure the Belgian to the Bernabeu while Hazard's own commitment to a future at Stamford Bridge has become less convincing with each passing week.
Pulisic has undoubted potential but he is far from the finished article despite the £57.6M fee lavished on a player entering the final year of his contract. His noble, if deluded, statement waxing lyrical of his delight in joining a "legendary club" alongside their "team of world-class players" ignores the reality that Chelsea are neither a revered name nor a squad brimming with talent.
Chelsea are desperate for reinforcements elsewhere, notably in recruiting a quality striker. That Pulisic will spend the remainder of the current season at Dortmund merely confirms Chelsea's lack of immediate need for his impact. What will be a grave concern for Blues supporters is that Chelsea have identified that need for next season and beyond, and in doing so surely confirm the now-inevitable departure of their one truly world-class star, the mercurial Eden Hazard.
