Felipe Ovono is, without a doubt, equally as talented as any other international goalkeeper in the league. However, it must also be said that, like any player, there are some flaws along with his strengths.
It should also be said that Brighton Mhlongo, who is arguably underrated in terms of talent, is in the same bracket as Ovono.
However, after the heroic display by Felipe Ovono in the maize cup, he demonstrated just how useful he is to the team and at the same time his capabilities when on form. He saved two good penalties from two exceptional players, but does that make him better than Mhlongo?
Brighton, so far in preseason, has had some good games and good saves as well, but, after Ovono’s display, the coaching department has a tall task ahead to determine who’s in goal and when.
Could we have a situation where Ovono will be used in cup games and Brighton in league games. If so, do you think Ovono has been given a raw deal since he has been given less game time lately.
Pound for pound, is Brighton better than Mhlongo or is it one of those scenarios where the coach’s favour takes precedence over talent?
