Let's not confuse movements with progress
The dust gathering vision 2022 blue print at Nasrec- is proving a mission impossible every time- a South African junior national team plays a major tournament.
South African under 20 side Amajita, did what we have accustomed ourselves with, adding to the numbers and not competing at an international stage. Amajita's campaing nosedived in their two first matches of the tournament. Losing to Argentina and South Korea respectively, was the end of the road for the South African side. Although they managed to salvage a point in their dead-rubber affair against Portugal, one point wasn't enough to save the day.
Their big brothers, who were expected to put on, big boys undies and put Botswana to the sword in the Cosafa cup also failed so dismally. Bafana Bafana can't even win a regional tournament. The link between the two sides- comes from their previous squads and tournaments. Amajita has graduated from the Amajimbos side that wen't to the under 17 Fifa world cup held in Chile. Cosafa Bafana squad has transtioned from the star-studded under 20 side that played at the Fifa World Cup in 2016.
There are movements from one camp to the other. But we cannot confuse movements with progress. South African football has never progressed but players have duly graduated. Have they past the test of time or they are too old to play in a certain age group?
