Kaizer Chiefs is winning games and it is sitting comfortably or unconfortably at the summit of the PSL log standings depending on your vantage point.
Despite winning games Chiefs is not on form. Coach Ernst Middendorp has admitted that he doesn't care how he gets results as long he gets going. But how you win games matter because stability and consistency will determine how far one can go. No team has won championships by fluke and Middendorp seems to be thinking he'll lift trophies through luck.
With Chiefs success questionable so far this season, can Middendorp, sustain his 'don't care' model? Mamelodi Sundowns mentor, Pitso Mosimane, has infamously said "Middendorp is one of the luckiest coaches." Teams are planning against Middendorp' luck and he will need something to fall on when his luck runs out.
Chiefs is a big brand to rely on luck. With the quality and depth at Middendorp' disposal, luck is the last thing to rely on. Chiefs is winning but is far from being on form. Though Chiefs is not on form but it has been consistent on luck. The Glamour Boys haven't had it easy this season. Facing the big guns in a space of weeks and maniging to grab maximum points and bragging rights.
