Ex Mamelodi Sundowns players shine for the national team.
Former Mamelodi Sundowns players Bongani Zungu, Keagan Dolly and Percy Tau, were among the best performers for the South African senior national team in the recent African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
The trio who are based in European reunited with their former teammates Themba Zwane and Mosa Lebusa in the national team camp to cause havoc against Sao Tome. Bafana Bafana walked away victorius in the back to back clashes against the tiny island nation after scoring six goals in two matches.
Zwane, Zungu and Tau were among the scorers as Bafana moved closer to qualifying for the 2021 AFCON. The national team is currently tied on points with Ghana at the top of Group C with both on 9 points from 4 matches.
Kermit Erasmus, Dolly and Lebusa are also worthy of a mention after playing a crucial role over the two legs. Dolly started both matches and was central in most of the team’s attack. He also came every close to scoring on occasion. While Lebusa was rock solid in defence and provided a new dimension as a left footed center back.
The standout performer was however, Zungu in central midfield. The box to box midfielder came off the bench to score in the first leg which earned him a starting berth in the second leg. Handed a chance in the starting line-up, the Scottish based star proved his worth with another dominant performance for the national team.
