Commitis Will To Have Olde At The Wheel
The Dutch philosophy has dominated South African in the 2011/12 season with Ruud Krol and Foppe De Haan challenging for league honours that campaign.
Although Krol got the better of De Haan when he led Orlando Pirates to a treble but De Haan proved his worth with the Ajax Cape Town young team. Cape Town City chairman John Commitis was with Ajax Cape Town during De Haan's tenure and surely admired the style of football played by Ajax at the time. Commitis is a confessed fan of total football and following Benni McCarthy' departure from the club, he went for a man with the Dutch roots, who understands the philosophy.
Jan Olde Riekerink ticked all the right boxes and Commitis has just found the man. Olde Riekerink is coming with a lot of experience that can help The Citizens to rise above the clutter. Although Olde is new in the PSL but he has an understanding of South African players. Having worked with his predecessesor, McCarthy and Steven Pienaar, at Ajax Amsterdam during the duo' playing days. He is not coming blank and that should grant him a space to lay his foundation.
Having coached at the highest level Olde Riekerink shouldn't struggle to hit the ground running. His countrymen have made the PSL their home in the past, it won't be a huge surprise, if he turns City's fortunes.
It is Commitis will to have Olde at the wheel....
