A derby we were all longing for
With the anticipated hype ahead of the Soweto derby, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, didn't disappoint the audience that packed FNB Stadium to the rafters on Saturday afternoon.
90 000 spectators flocked to the Calabash dressed in their respective teams regalia too dazzling to dare to wear twice. As usual the two Soweto giants pulled the crowd that even the national teams can only dream of. With the supporters in full voice urging their teams to victory- but none could claim maximum points.
The derby has been dubbed the drawby, only because of its strings of goalless draws- Pirates and Chiefs have ditched out in recent derbies. The beautiful game is more prettier with numbers. Two goals were adequate for supporters of both teams to take home. This was a classic derby with all its ingredients.
A climax that could never have been scripted for a cinema or TV because it was too far-fetched.
