The former Mamelodi Sundowns winger netted both goals as South Africa beat Libya 2-1 away from home to book their tickets for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Overall, Tau scored four of Bafana's 11 goals during the qualification campaign, putting him level with Egypt and Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, as well as three others.
Former Amakhosi forward Knowledge Musona, who netted once in Zimbabwe's 2-0 victory over Congo on Sunday – a result that saw The Warriors secure their spot at AFCON 2019 – finished the campaign with five strikes.
Only Burundi's Fiston Abdul Razak, who scored six times to help his country to qualify for their first ever AFCON, and Nigeria's Odion Ighalo scored more than Musona during qualification – the Nigerian finished the qualification campaign as the top goalscorer with seven strikes.
The draw for the tournament in Egypt – the first AFCON to be played with 24 teams – will take place on 12 April in Cairo, with the tournament itself taking place between 21 June and 19 July.
