Former Real Madrid coach, Fabio Capello has claimed that he prefers Lionel Messi to Cristiano Ronaldo, because he believes the Argentine is “more of a genius” than the Portuguese star.
Capello claimed that, in his opinion, Messi is the better player, but also said that the problems at Barcelona have affected his performances.
“Messi is more of a genius than Cristiano Ronaldo, but he is having a difficult time at the club and that may generate problems. I do not know what might happen,” Capello said on radio station, Cadena Cope.
The current Russia boss did say that he thinks Ronaldo may overtake Messi’s record tally of four Ballon d’Ors, but concluded by saying that Barcelona should not sell the World Cup finalist.
“It is a very interesting fight because Cristiano is very solid and very strong mentally. He always wants to be the best, every year.
“He is playing in a great team, everyone helps him and he helps the team. It is an important thing, and he also has the respect of everyone and he trains very well,” he added.
“I do not think that Barça should sell Messi, how can you sell Messi? I saw him on Sunday. He started badly in the first few minutes, he was on the wing, he didn’t like it, then he woke up and produced a great match. Barça cannot sell a player like so.”
Fabio Capello spent two 12-month spells in charge of Real Madrid, including the 2006/07 season where Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick in an exciting 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeau.
