The second half of the 2014/2015 Absa Premiership season has been a bright one for Orlando Pirates supporters, as coach Eric Tinkler managed to turn things around at Mayfair and churned out some wonderful performances in the process.
With the Soweto derby excitement slowly starting to boil, Tinkler may face a slight midfield selection dilemma ahead of the clash against league leaders Kaizer Chiefs this weekend.
As things stand, names like Mpho Makola, Issa Sarr, Thandani Ntshumayelo and Oupa Manyisa have all been getting regular game time in the first team and performing well.
Makola can either play as a number 10 or as a left winger, and it remains to be seen which position Tinkler will utilise the trickster in. Manyisa’s ability to play in a deep lying midfield role and just behind the striker could have a direct bearing on how Makola could be used.
Should Manyisa play high up the field and Makola as a winger? However, if Manyisa is placed deeper in midfield, Makola would most likely be used as a number 10.
It doesn’t stop there, because should Tinkler use Manyisa as a deep lying playmaker, he would have to choose either Ntshumayelo or Sarr as his partner in midfield. Both Bibo and Sarr have been doing well for Bucs in recent times, and Tinkler will have a tough decision when choosing one for the Soweto derby.
In terms of selection, Tinkler may have his work cut out for himself and we can only but hope he gets his midfield combinations spot on.
If you were Tinkler, who would you start in midfield for Bucs?
