Last night Orlando Pirates strolled to a comfortable 4-1 win over SuperSport United and it was those three points which saw the club climb up to second on the log. Despite this, people are still calling for Eric Tinkler’s head.
The coach was announced as Bucs’ interim coach back in December until the end of the season, and so far he has done exceptionally well.
After losing his first match in charge to Sowetan rivals and newly-crowned PSL champions, Kaizer Chiefs, the coach helped Pirates go on their best run since their treble winning campaigns by going 12 games unbeaten.
This was a dramatic and promising turnaround considering the inconsistent form and the disappointing bag of results the club had procured under Vladimir Vermezovic.
Not only that, Tinkler has helped keep Pirates in the CAF Confederation Cup – they are the only remaining South African team left in Africa – and he has helped the team climb the log.
Right now, Pirates are in second place and in the en-route to their highest finish for the first time since their last title win back in 2011/12.
Still, despite all the facts and figures suggesting an improvement, Tinkler does seem to remain unworthy of the head coach position.
After every game, a select group of Ghosts rejoice over the win but then go on to state that Tinkler must go.
It is sad; given how much work he has done to this team with no real transfer window available to him…
Do you think Tinkler will ever be considered worthy of being the club’s head coach?
