With Thulani Serero and May Mahlangu’s ban being lifted and many other abroad based South African footballers being thrown back into the Bafana Bafana fold, is now the time for Bafana to reach its full potential with these players, who have been moulded in Europe in the squad?
For one, it should put likes of Serero, Kamohelo Mokotjo, Mahlangu and Ayanda Patosi miles ahead of the local based players in terms of technical ability.
Serero has been the heartbeat of the Ajax Amsterdam squad in the Dutch Eredivisie, and he is one of the club's most important players. We tend to forget that even at a young age, Serero has already rubbed shoulders with greats of the game like Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernandez in the UEFA Champions League.
This is the type of valuable experience we need within the national team and many players around him can learn from it. His Dutch league counterpart, Mokotjo is one of the leading assist makers in the Eredivisie and he has improved leaps and bounds since his move abroad.
With regards to Mahlangu, many fans claimed that he could even be better than the likes of Dean Furman and Andile Jali because of his versatility in midfield. Patosi has also shined for Lokeren in Belgium this season and has scored some outstanding goals for his club throughout the campaign.
These are all fantastic players in their own right and could even form the embryo of this budding Bafana team.
Will they turn up upon their return to the national team?
