Hello fellow Buccaneers! Orlando Pirates are back in action this evening against AmaZulu, and Eric Tinkler may seriously consider delaying Siyabonga Mpontshane’s debut in goals for the club.
The goalkeeper was brought in to help add extra depth to the goalkeeping department as well as help further develop the young Brighton Mhlongo.
Last week, the Fan Park crew posed a question to the fans as to who they would prefer to see start in goal, but tonight my sentiments are leaning towards Mhlongo in goal.
Why? Because Mpontshane’s record against Usuthu is far from convincing…
The shot-stopper has turned out a total of eight times against AmaZulu and his outings have so far yielded less than stellar results. Although he may have won three and drawn one game, he has lost the remaining four against Usuthu - while conceding a total of 11 goals against them.
This is one of the teams he is most vulnerable to, with only Pirates and Golden Arrows having knocked more goals past him (12).
On top of that dismal record, he has only gone one game without conceding a goal too against the Durban outfit, while Mhlongo is yet to play against AmaZulu.
It clearly seems that AmaZulu is a bogey team for Mpontshane and it may be a good idea for him to avoid playing against them.
Ghosts, what do you think about these numbers – should he start or not?
