Orlando Pirates chairman Dr Irvin Khoza has confirmed that the club will announce a new coach next week Monday, with the man they wanted having a buy-out clause installed in his contract. But who is it?
We've heard of players who have buy-out clauses placed in their contracts, but this is the first time a tactician is said to have the clause hanging over his head.
Speaking to the media, Khoza revealed: "Next week Monday we will be announcing a new coach. We were restricted to do so in January by prohibitive buy-out clauses."
Now, the question on everyone's lip is: who is this man? Never before has a club in the PSL claimed there is such a clause in a coach's contract, so that leaves one man... Benni McCarthy.
How is this so? Well, who remembers when Amanda Dlamini didn't travel with Banyana Banyana for AFCON in November? This was largely due to her commitments and contract with television broadcaster SuperSport.
McCarthy is one of SuperSport's more popular pundits, and he is likely to have a deal in place that will prohibit him from coaching unless he gets bought out of his contract.
Now, this is all speculation, but given the fact that no club around the world has put a buy-out clause on a coach before, Benni's deal with a different party makes sense.
Khoza even ended the press conference by praising Benni as a person and as a player.
Another possibility is Luc Eymael. The Belgian tactician joined Polokwane CIty ahead of the 2016/17 season, and his deal with Rise and Shine may leave Khoza in a position where they have to pay out the remainder of his contract at the club in order to secure his signature.
Meanwhile, Giovanni Solinas is currently unemployed and has remained in the country since parting ways with Free State Stars. However, given he is a "free agent", he would not have any contract over his head, making him an unlikely possibility.
Who do you think the coach with the buy-out clause is?
