What Is Khune’s Best Option?

Itumeleng Khune’s unknown future is the biggest speculation story that has hit the media headlines in recent months, as his contract is set to run dry in three months' time. So what is his best option?

The shot-stopper is yet to agree a new deal with Kaizer Chiefs for the coming season, and if the situation remains the same, the 12 years spent at Naturena could swiftly come to an end.

Here is a look at some of the options Khune may be pondering…

Mamelodi Sundowns
It was reported by the Siya crew that various parties could neither confirm nor deny reports of Khune having signed a pre-contract with Sundowns ahead of next season. The Brazilians have long been interested in his services, and they will be willing to pay him the big bucks in order to lure him to Chloorkop. Khune wouldn’t be the first goalkeeper to leave Chiefs for Sundowns, with Brian Baloyi having done the same. Whether or not he will taste success with the Brazilians is a different story...

Orlando Pirates
The Buccaneers were also linked to Khune during the January transfer window. Joining his rivals would certainly not go down too well with the Amakhosi faithful, though the Buccaneers have denied reports linking them with the player.

A Move Overseas
Itu’s other option is a move abroad, but where? To make it in England, Spain, Germany, Italy and even France, it would have been easier if he had moved at the age of 24 at the very latest. A move to Belgium could be enticing for him to test his luck, while the UAE and India is also a possibility. Khune would, however, have to ensure that he is fully recovered from his ankle injury that kept him out for the better part of this season.

An Extension With Chiefs
Finally, an extension with Chiefs is another option for him. Khune has established himself as the Amakhosi number one, and he has become not only a club legend, but also a legend of the game in Mzansi. To extend with Chiefs mean he will be guaranteed game time, as opposed to maybe a move abroad or with Sundowns, while money shouldn’t be a problem as he is already earning a comfortable salary. In retrospect, if Khune really wanted the move to Europe or elsewhere, he would’ve done it by now.

Maybe it is best for him to stay and maintain his legendary status with the Glamor Boys, while, on the other hand, Khune needs to find a place that can help him grow. What do you guys think?
