There was jubilation for majority of Kaizer Chiefs fans as their team won an opening day match for the first time in five years, but it wasn’t all smiles though, as one fan returned to find his car had burnt to the ground.
Goals from Eric Mathoho and Lebogang Manyama ensured that Chiefs saw out a narrow 3-2 victory in front of a packed Makhulong stadium in Tembisa.
It was a nervy performance from Ernst Middendorp’s team as they squandered their early lead and then went behind as Peter Shalulile dispatched from close-range.
One fan had the shock of his life after the match, as his Polo GTI was burnt beyond recognition.
Reports state that the fan had allegedly left his car radio playing, which caused the amp to heat up, setting the whole car ablaze. The fire was quickly extinguished.
Images of the burnt vehicle were doing the rounds on social media.
