It’s a fact that going into the Soweto Derby, there will never be favourites or underdogs. That’s not to say both teams will back down and let the tie take its course, no… pride and bragging rights are at stake.
However from a Pirates perspective, here are three things Chiefs can expect from Pirates in the derby.
Pirates Will Score
Bucs have a striking set which has been on form all season long, particularly in the Absa Premiership, and this is something Chiefs don’t have. Expect to see either or both of Kermit Erasmus and Lehlohonolo Majoro cause problems for the Chiefs defence.
Bucs Could Dominate Midfield
The trio of Thandani Ntshumayelo, Oupa Manyisa and Issa Sarr have found a rich vein of form in recent times and could well be the key in the Soweto derby. If Chiefs' performance against Ajax Cape Town in the week is anything to go by, particularly the performance from their midfielders, Bucs could enjoy a huge slice of possession.
Wide Men To Be Used
The club prides itself in using wingers to trouble full-backs. Without names like Tlou Segolela and Daine Klate, other players like Thabo Rakhale and Sifiso Myeni are sure to get a run as they have been producing solid performances lately.
What other factors do you think will count in Bucs' favour in the derby?
