Paris Saint-Germain were left in tatters when they hosted Barcelona in the first-leg of the Champions League quarter-finals last week, losing 3-1 on their own turf.
However, I feel that there may be an upset on the cards in Tuesday night’s second-leg, and I’ve stated three reasons as to why I believe that Laurent Blanc’s team can do so.
1) Barcelona’s Defensive Frailties
Although Gerrard Pique, Javier Mascherano and Jeremy Mathieu have put up a solid defensive display for most of the season, I believe that a strong PSG attack can tear any one of these defenders apart. We’ve seen slip ups from all three of these players, with Pique probably being the most error-prone. Dani Alves has been great over the years, but he’s performed under par this season – prompting Barca into wanting to let him go! If Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edison Cavani, Ezequiel Lavezzi, Lucas and Javier Pastore can run at these players, I believe that there are bound to be goals for the French side.
2) PSG’s Workers In Midfield
With the likes of Blaise Matuidi and Marco Verratti in midfield for Les Bleus, we’re bound to see hard-work and running for the whole 90 minutes – or even 120 minutes. Lately, we’ve seen Lionel Messi dropping deeper to help in out in midfield, as Barcelona have looked average in that department, with their front-three always stealing headlines. Games are more often than not won in midfield, and if the Frenchman and the Italian can overpower the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Ivan Rakitic, I believe they’re in with a shout.
3) The Return Of Zlatan!
Well, I think it would be silly for anybody to doubt that Zlatan Ibrahimovic can change tonight’s game, and he will look to do so, especially after missing the first-leg through suspension. Of course Zlatan will be as motivated as ever – considering it’s against his former employers!
Do you believe that PSG will be able to turn the tie around?
