Earlier this season Kaizer Chiefs were the talk of the Mzansi for their unbeaten run, but 2015 has seen a different story unfold. With only one league goal since the turn of the New Year, things are not looking too peachy at Naturena.
Today, I have opted to take a look at what has unraveled across Mzansi since Chiefs’ only league goal against Ajax Cape Town on March 4.
Pirates Have Gone On An Unbeaten Run
Chiefs were the last team to defeat Pirates and that was a blessing in disguise. Since then, the Buccaneers have gone on a 12-match undefeated spree, while Chiefs only managed a six-match unbeaten run since that derby in December 2014.
AmaZulu Have Actually Won More Games Than Chiefs
With the team sitting at the bottom of the log, they have staggeringly managed to win (2) more fixtures in 2015 than Chiefs. On top of that, they have scored 10 league goals in the same space of time since Chiefs’ goal versus Ajax.
Even Swallows Have Scored More Goals
Swallows are Sowetan rivals of the Amakhosi, and they are winning the goalscoring derby. With three goals in 2015 and a win under their belt, the Dube Birds would be on top of the league table if it were a two-team log!
Aces Have Parted Ways With Their Coach, Won The Same Amount Of Matches & Scored More
This is crazy! Since Chiefs’ last goal, which came at the foot of Mandla Masango, Aces have parted ways with Clive Barker as head coach. They have since replaced him with Jacob Sakala and they have gone on to win the same amount of fixtures Chiefs have won since Masango’s strike. Aces have also scored four times more than what the league leaders have.
The Stars Have Written About Chiefs’ Slump
When Maritzburg United inflicted a second league defeat on Kaizer Chiefs, head coach Steve Komphela said the Team of Choice’s victory ‘was written in the stars’. Since the victory over Ajax, even the stars have learnt how to put pen-to-paper, something which Tefu Mashamaite and Itumeleng Khune haven’t learnt yet…
Sundowns Have Reduced The Gap On Chiefs
The very same weekend Chiefs scored their solitary strike in 2015, Sundowns lost to Bidvest Wits. Since then, the Brazilians have managed to win back-to-back matches, reducing the gap to eight points.
Ghosts, this is somehwat amazing! What else has happened since Kaizer Chiefs’ Last league goal?
