In European football, the names of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been dominating all forms of media for the last eight to 10 years or so. They have constantly driven each other to new heights and have blessed football with their extra-ordinary talents.
Not only have they set new records and enjoyed incredible success, but they have become the benchmark for any player wanted to reach the very top.
Do we need our own ‘CR7 and Messi’ rivalry in the PSL to enhance the overall quality?
One of the most famous rivalries we can think of was that of Jabu Mahlangu and Steve Lekoelea who, in their prime, were the darlings of the football world. We could also think of the fierce battle between Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo and Mamelodi Sundowns legend Roger Feutmba.
In modern times we have even seen a battle brewing between Teko Modise and Reneilwe Letsholonyane, who up until this day perform at the highest level in PSL standards.
However, we are yet to see two stars in the Premier Soccer League at the peak of their powers under constantly compared in the same fashion as Messi and Ronaldo.
Let’s hope to see either, Chiefs, Pirates or Mamelodi Sundowns produce potential superstars who could face off in a similar fashion.
Who do you think will be the CR7 and Messi of the PSL?
