The Brazilians booked their place in the last 8 of the Nedbank Cup after a 3-1 victory over Platinum Stars on Sunday.
Mzikayise Mashaba, Khama Billiat and a glorious free kick by Hlompho Kekana made sure that the Pitso Mosimane’s side will play in the next round of the competition unlike the other PSL big guns.
The three that impressed:
Khama Billiat: the Zimbabwean had yet another busy afternoon and was the Sundowns player that impressed me the most. He was in the thick of things from the opening minutes of the game and produced a man of the match performance.
Themba Zwane: he was among the Sundowns players that worked very hard in the midfield. He was also very useful going forward and his performance was very satisfying.
Hlompho Kekana: apart from scoring a stunning free kick, Kekana was the provider for Billiat’s goal and had a fantastic game in the holding midfield role and adding numbers in attack.
The three that disappointed:
Cuthbert Malajila: the Sundowns top goal scorer so far in the season was not as clinical as we know him and it was a very frustrating afternoon as he failed to find the back of the net. Pitso did the right thing taking him off towards the end of the match.
Dennis Onyango: the big Ugandan looked very shaky especially in dealing with crosses. He surely did not play to his standards though his team won the match.
Tebogo Langerman: He had a poor game and did not come to the party as he usually does in his left back role and was rightly taken off in the 61st minute.
