With captain Alje Schut leaving Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the current Premier Soccer League season, the Fan Park crew takes a look at three possible candidates for the armband that Schut will leave behind.
Right off the bat, Mr Cool has the upper hand as he has captaincy experience under his belt from his Bloemfontein Celtic days. In defence, he formed a strong partnership with Schut over the last two seasons, and from a leadership point of view, he will no doubt have learnt from Schut's example.
Modise's experience in this regard gives an advantage over some of the others. Let's not forget thought that by nature, Google Earth is a match winner. A match-winning captain is a leader any team would welcome, especially at such a big club like Downs.
Kekana has long been one of the best midfielders in the country and what makes him a candidate for the captaincy role is his ability to assert his authority on the field of play. A midfield enforcer is a player suited to a leadership role and this puts Kekana in good stead.
Who do you think should be made captain?
