It was reported in last week’s edition of Soccer Laduma that striker Cuthbert Malajila was reportedly recommended to French club Lille following his impressive form in front of goal this season.
With a potential exit on the cards, let’s take a look a few strikers we could sign as a replacement for the Zimbabwean.
As one of the in-form strikers in the Absa Premiership, Sekola will no doubt be a wanted man at the end of the season. On par with Malajila with 10 goals in the league, Sekola has already been linked to league leaders Kaizer Chiefs, but don’t be surprised if you see Downs join the race for his signature.
Tlolane has been Polokwane City’s leading scorer this season and may make a move to one of the big three at the end of the season. What may put him in good stead for a move to Downs is that he thrives in a passing game - a system which has been utilised by Kosta Papic at Rise and Shine this season. Similarly our ‘Shoe Shine and Piano’ philosophy may bring the best out of Tlolane should we sign him.
The Bloemfontein Celtic frontman has been in fine form this season, with his nine goals in the league being a shining light in rather indifferent season for Siwelele. At the age of 28, he may be considered a late bloomer; however, there is no doubt that he would be a great replacement for Malajila if the club is looking for experience upfront.
This may surprise a few as Brockie only just recently signed for SuperSport Untied. With him hitting the ground running for Matsatsantsa and adjusting ever so well in South Africa, there will be no stopping Downs once the chequebook opens for any in-form striker.
What other strikers do you think we should sign if Malajila leaves?
