For the month of March/April, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane snapped up the Coach of the Month award despite the club fading out of the Absa Premiership league title race.
Downs have all but surrendered their league trophy, with Mosimane even apologising to the Sundowns fans for their poor performance against Bloemfontein Celtic recently.
Having said that, I feel Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler should have won the award and here is why. Looking at the numbers, both clubs had won five and lost two games. However Pirates drew three games, with Downs recording only one stalemate.
This last month and a half has been crucial for both coaches, but Mosimane’s inability to maintain their run for the Absa Premiership should have counted against him in all honesty.
Tinkler, who has a full-time job to play for, rejuvenated his squad in the last couple of months - especially after a lacklustre start to the second half of the season. I feel that with a similar record in recent times, especially with both clubs recording the same amount of wins, Tinkler should have had a look in with regards to being the coach of the month.
Also, Pirates has been out of the league title race for a long time now, but still have the CAF Confederation Cup to play for.
Both teams have at least one competition to play for, one continentally and one domestically, but if you’re looking at a coach who has had the most influence on their teams in the last two months, then Tinkler is your man.
Do you agree that Tinkler should have been the Coach of the Month?
