Despite being one of the most expensive players in the English top flight, a certain defender is yet to secure a boot sponsor. Can you believe it?
The player in question is Manchester United star Harry Maguire, who recently became the world's most expensive defender when he transferred from Leicester City to Old Trafford for a sum of £80 million (R1.4 billion).
Surrounded by footballers like Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard, who have become marketable assets for brands, the towering centre-back, rather surprisingly, currently plays with no boot sponsor. This explains the plain black boots he has been spotted in, but it has been reported, however, that he could well be signed to a brand in the near future.
Spanish publication Marca recently reported that a number of sports brands are in a tug-a-war to land his signature for a boot deal that could see him bag R12.9 million a season.
